Street Party
Saturday 10th September

Get your pens out and mark it on your calendars. This year's street party will be on Sunday September 10. The theme will be 'Harvest' and money raised will go towards plants and street furniture for the Five Roads.

There'll be a Quiz, an Auction of Promises and a Table Sale, as well as a Plant and Produce Stall and Apple Bobbing, Tombola, Book Sale. Toy Stall and Refreshments. Games for children as well as adults .... and lots of Music and Fun.

So you can see why we need masses of volunteers to run stalls and generally assist on the day.
If you can help, please contact Caroline Evans on 8810 1426.
Daniel Update
As you can see, construction continues on the Daniel site. Just a reminder: if you are bothered by noise from the site before 8:00 in the morning, please ring the Council’s Noise Control Team on 8825 8111 to report it. If you have other issues (such as lights too bright or lorries on the pavement), you can also ring the Daniel site directly on 8519 1400. The planning application for a warehouse on this site which was originally turned down by the planning department some time ago has now been approved by the planning inspectorate on appeal by Daniel. Five Roads representatives are in negotiation with the planning department to ensure that conditions are set similar to those for the store/flat development (no lorries in the Home Zone, restricted hours of operation, etc).

Broughton Court
After a meeting with representatives of Ealing Police, Broughton Court and Five Roads Forum this spring, we have been told that there are plans for the beech hedge on Broughton Road to be pruned in early July as part of the Community Payback Scheme. We also expect to hear from the police about a follow-up meeting to address other issues once they have met again with Ealing Homes.

Parking Problems
We have recently heard concerns from several residents about their ability to park in our roads after the CPZ hours. Council plans a re-consultation of our CPZ hours as part of the Daniel development, but if we need to lobby them to do this before construction is completed, we need to know. If you have noticed an increase in non-resident cars, please ring Lisa and let her know as soon as possible.
New Faces
Congratulations to Harri Jenkins who is now co-chair of Five Roads Forum with Lisa Hall. And warm welcomes to Will Redpath who is taking Harri’s place as Denmark Road rep and Kenneth Brown who is taking over as the Hastings House rep

Car Crime
There appears to have been a spate of car crime locally. At least four cars have been damaged—one was even sitting on a driveway. Three of the cars were scratched or damaged along their sides with something like a key while they were in Arden Road. Another had nails hammered into two of its tyres while it was parked in Denmark Road near the junction with Broughton Road. If you have a problem with your car being damaged, please let your street rep know so that we can let the police know that this is an on-going problem

Summertime Burglary
Police are reminding people not to leave their homes an open invitation to thieves during the summer. As the warmer weather is upon us, there is a tendency to keep our properties well ventilated and cooler. Burglars will make the most of easy opportunities and target properties that are insecure. They will exploit open windows, often while householders are asleep upstairs or even when they are just in the back garden. Taking a few simple precautions can reduce the chances of you becoming a victim of a summer crime. Fit and more importantly, use good locks on downstairs and accessible windows. An "accessible window" is one that is relatively easy to climb to, for example, above a ground floor extension or porch, or next to a drainpipe. Burglary tends to be an opportunist crime. A burglar will select his target because it offers the best opportunity to carry out his crime undetected and with the fewest number of obstacles in his way. A determined burglar can get through the smallest of open windows. But a building that presents itself as unoccupied and insecure is far more likely to be targeted than one which is properly secured.
