| Daniel Update Many of you were disturbed recently by too-early construction on the Daniel site. We have met with representatives from both Daniel and the Council, and we hope that is now resolved. You will be receiving a leaflet soon detailing contact numbers and construction times. If you are bothered by noise from the site before 8:00 in the morning, please ring the Councils Noise Control Team on 8825 8111 to report it. Daniel are also working on dimming the lights on the site at night so we wont be disturbed by them. If you have other issues, you can also ring the Daniel site directly on 8519 1400. Vic Fisher The Five Roads Committee is looking for another street rep from Hastings House after the sad death of Vic Fisher. Vic was a long-term resident of the neighbourhood and was a familiar sight with his camera at street parties where he enjoyed taking photos. Quiet and unassuming, we will deeply miss him. STREET PARTY Many thanks to all those who helped to make the Street Party so successful. With a little help from the weather and those who organised the games and the Quiz, we made a profit of £58.06 which will go into the Five Roads funds toward future projects and street parties. Daniel Warehouse Appeal Many of you will know that Daniel have appealed against Councils decision not to allow a large warehouse beside their new store, which we opposed. It is with the Planning Inspectorate, who are to have a site visit on 12th December. We should have a decision by early January as to whether or not Daniel will be allowed to have their warehouse. Christmas Cheer... With Christmas just around the corner, remember its not just Santa Claus who might be looking for a way into your home! Burglars are extra busy trying to find homes that are full of presents but lacking in security. So be extra vigilant and dont keep large amounts of presents on display. Make sure you check the identity of any callers and keep an eye on vulnerable and elderly people living nearby. If you do go away, ask neighbours to keep an eye on your house. Ask them to push through any newspapers or post that is not properly put through your letterbox. Consider giving a trusted neighbour a key to periodically open and close curtains while you are away, or even ask a friend to stay over to house-sit. Buy timers for lights, radio or television so that it looks like you are at home. Cancel the milk and newspapers, and make sure the burglar alarm is switched on it you have one. We hope everyone has a safe and Happy Holiday! |
News Round-Up There is concern about applications for late night licences from pubs and bars on the Uxbridge Road. Under the new laws, police and local residents will have stronger powers to object to such licences. The licensing team at Ealing Council have requested that any type of disturbance be reported, so please ring them on 8825 5000. It is also important that you give us details about the problem via email at fiveroadsforum@ yahoo.co.uk. Knowledge of past problems gives us a better position in getting licenses reviewed when they come up for renewal. Remember you can ring Neighbourhood Watch on 8246 9482. But if you see a crime being committed, ring Ealing police directly on 8896 1212 , or ring 999. The Hastings Road barrier was recently found padlocked in the upright position. It should only be opened by the emergency services, so please ring Ealing police if you see the barrier in the upright position for no reason. Transport for London plan to build a substation on the corner of Uxbridge Road / Northfield Avenue if it gets the go-ahead for the Tram. Getting to Grips with Graffiti Ealing Council has a free graffiti removal service. To request this service, call Ealing Customer Services on 020 8825 6000. You will have to fill in a disclaimer form and will need to provide the following information: Tag information (a tag is the signature of the graffiti vandal); Type of wall, eg brick, pebbledash and colour of wall if painted; Type of graffiti, eg silver spray paint, black pen etc; Location, eg front garden wall; and Access to location. The Council aims to remove offensive graffiti within one working day and non-offensive graffiti with 10 working days. Please use this free service! |
