No admission tickets to buy in advance - just turn up and bring your own food, drink and something to sit on. Therell be music, a teddy bears picnic, games, stalls and lots of fun for everyone. Watch out for more information and requests for help with the organising in the coming weeks. |
| Trees
for Broughton Road After months of lobbying by the Five Roads Committee and residents of Broughton Road, we are please to report that the Council will plant more trees to stop traffic driving onto the pavement. The new trees will be placed outside 38-39 Broughton Road and further up near the junction with Denmark Road. Car Club News The Smart Moves shared car has now been relocated from Hastings Road to its permanent parking place in St Leonards Road near Uxbridge Road junction. Ring the Smart Moves representative on 020 8579 7727 for information on how to join this rapidly growing scheme. Troublesome Trams A letter was sent to Transport for London from the Five Roads Forum expressing disappointment with its interpretation of the results of the tram consultation. Households should have received a pamphlet from TfL giving the results of the tram survey which questioned 17,000 people - the majority of whom were AGAINST the tram scheme. The market research only questioned 1,000 people - the majority of whom were FOR the tram scheme. Not surprising since the people consulted dont live near the proposed tram route! However the TfL leaflet appeared to give more weight to the market research than the survey - emphasising a recent newspaper report that Ken Livingstone wants the tram to go ahead even if people on the proposed route are against it. |
Hastings
Road Barrier The damaged gate across Hastings Road west has been replaced. This one has large reflector strips on the bottom to make it more visible to traffic, so hopefully cars wont drive into it. The Council has said that if vehicles continue to smash into it, they will replace it with a heavy-duty version. Lets hope no-one gets hurt! Neighbourhood Watch There have been several extremely unpleasant incidents recently in the Five Roads including an attempted robbery involving a gun and a number of burglaries. This highlights the importance of the Safer Neighbourhood Team - beat officers who patrol our area and who can be contacted about any anti-social behaviour from graffiti to gun-crime. There telephone number is: 020 8246 9482. It also highlights the importance of Neighbourhood Watch. Arden Road rep, Kuldeep Gharatya, will be the Five Roads contact person with the organisation and the current street reps will also be Neighbourhood Watch reps. Demolishing Daniel Demolition has obviously now started on the Daniel site and we are struggling to ensure the contractors keep within the bounds of the planning conditions. We are speaking with the planning department to determine precisely what conditions Daniel must follow during the construction period, but for now we know that the allowed construction days are Monday to Friday (times to be advised) and not at all on weekends or bank holidays. In addition, no construction vehicles are allowed through through the Home Zone at any time. The gate and alley in Denmark Road is for emergency access only and should not be used for either access or parking. There are other conditions which we are currently trying to identify and will let residents know as soon as we have. |
