Annual General Meeting
Everyone is welcome at the AGM. The
agenda will include reports from the Chair, Treasurer, Street Reps, the
election of officers and plans for next year. Our constitution requires
that the offices of Chair, Secretary and Treasurer are elected annually.
Hugh Comerford, one of our Co-Chairs, has indicated he would like to stand
down this year after serving in various officer roles since the inception
of the Five Roads Forum. We are grateful to Hugh for his many years of
service, and hope he will continue to be active in matters affecting the
Home Zone. Nominations for that office are invited. If you would like to
nominate someone or become more involved generally, please contact
Caroline Evans. Nominations (a proposer and a seconder) close on Friday
January 7th.
Flower Power
A Thanks to the 5RF residents who have
been working on the street planters and the bed at the S-bend in Hastings
Road. There is still work to be done so anyone who would like to get
involved contact Caroline Evans.
Sinclair House
Another major planning development
threatens our doorsteps. This time it's a 12-storey block the other side
of the railway line, at Sinclair House (the nearly disused building
between the Drayton Pub and the railway). The plan is to build one
12-storey block of flats with 88 affordable housing units in it, and
another 7-storey block with retail space, office space and another 20
flats in it which would be sold. The real issue is the cumulative
development that is happening in West Ealing - including 137 flats to be
built on the Daniels site; a 9-storey development at Waitrose; high-rise
flats at Cavalier House; and the Gosai Cinema and Marks and Spencers
sites. It is making Ealing into a high-rise, high density place to live.
Also there is concern that a large block could create a precedent for
other developments in the area - possibly the Majestic site if that ever
got developed.
Safer Streets
As part of the new borough-wide pilot
project, we now have our own Safer Neighbourhoods team. This is a group of
six police and community support officers dedicated to walking the beat
and improving the quality of life in our neighbourhoods by tacking issues
such as anti-social behaviour, graffiti, vandalism and nuisance
neighbours. While emergency calls should still go through 999, calls
dealing with these issues should first be addressed with our Safer
Neighbourhoods team. The Ealing Broadway Ward Team can be reached on 8649
3573.
| Stunning
Street Success The street party was a stunning success - with a fancy dress parade for the children, diverse stalls, Olympic Games and dancing til late. Many thanks to the street party committee who worked hard to return a substantial profit of £218.15. This money will go towards plants for the street planters and for any possible future planning battles. Seamless Relocation Former joint Chairs of Five Roads Forum, Charmian Boyd and Kim Tompsett, have gone into business. Seamless Relocation offers a complete package of supporting care for older people who are looking to move into a more suitable home. From helping to find a new property to settling in on moving day, every situation is unique. Contact Charmian or Kim on 020 8621 3553 or at http://www.seamlessrelocation.com/. Notices Congratulations to Kuldeep and Nisha Gharatya on the birth of beautiful baby girl Inaya. And we offer our deepest condolences to Jacquie Burke on the death of her husband Michael. |
