AGM Saturday 17th January 2004 at 10am. Elect new
chairs of your residents association!
Everyone is welcome to attend the AGM at the Conservative offices 39 Broughton Road. Coffee will be served! Agenda will include
Election of officers Our constitution requires that the offices of Chair, Secretary and Treasurer are elected annually. The present chairs - Kim and Charmian are standing down this year and nominations for these positions, for secretary and Denmark Road representative are invited. Two nominations for chair have been received so far - Hugh Comerford and Lisa Hall have indicated their willingness to stand. If you would like to be more involved or would like to join the committee please contact James Buchanan on 020 8566 3536 or put a note through 18 Hastings Road. Nominations (including a proposer and a seconder) close on January 9th. Elections will be held at the AGM.
Daniel Development The planning proposal (submitted jointly by
Crest Nicholson and Daniel ) for 140 flats and a new store is still
available for viewing at the planning department in Perceval House. We
believe this scale of development will have a very negative effect on the
area and residents' homes. It also raises major safety issues for the home
zone. Ealing planning department has told us that the plans are due to be
modified, but we have not seen any evidence of this yet. Next week some
residents and committee members will be meeting the developers Crest
Nicholson to discuss our considerable concerns.
A professional town planner was hired by some residents and he wrote a
comprehensive statement of objection on behalf of Five Roads Forum, which
was submitted to the council. Thank you to all those who contributed.
Thank you also to all those who have written to the council planning
department expressing your concerns individually. This is very valuable as
letters of objection can be used as evidence at the planning committee
meeting. Because of the large number of letters received by the planning
department, our Councillors have told us that they may hold a public
meeting to discuss the development early in the new year. If you haven't
written yet - you still can - address your letter to Sandra Winwood at
Ealing Council, Planning Department, Perceval House, Ealing W5. Please
look on the notice board for further updates.
Bulb Planting Thanks to all those who planted bulbs around trees. We hope the spring will be colourful! Trees have been ordered for Hastings Road gate and the bend on Hastings Road. We await expenditure details to see what we can afford to put in the other planters.
Watch out! There have been several burglaries of homes within the immediate area over the last months. Please report anything suspicious - to the police or your street representative. There has also been a young girl who has managed to obtain money from residents by knocking at their doors and telling them a sob story. Please be on your guard - people who beg at the door are usually not what they seem. This girl apparently deserved an Oscar for her performance! We hope to re-invigorate the neighbourhood watch scheme once again, but need someone to help organise - let Charmian know if you could take this on please!
Playground
The space for the children's playground in Arden Road has been a source
of much work to obtain a grant and planning permission. Regrettably the
council failed to inform us that they were considering selling off the car
park and this piece of land! We have talked to councillors and the church
(who have a license to use this land as a car park) and hope we have been
sufficiently persuasive to keep the land from being developed.
| Many congratulations to Mrs Chuda on her 80th birthday. |
