Daniel Site Development |
At the Planning Committee meeting on Wednesday 26th May, the Daniel site redevelopment application was passed after a split vote by the Chairman's casting vote. The approval is subject to a long list of restrictions attempting to reduce the negative impact on both the Home Zone and individual residents. More details soon.
The application is on the agenda for the next planning committee meeting, Wednesday 26th May, 7pm at Town Hall. The meeting is open to the public and you are encouraged to attend if at all possible.
In the past couple of weeks representatives from the
home zone have:
About 80 residents and other interested groups (Ealing Civic Society, Walpole Residents' Association, etc.) attended two public meetings on 20th April organised by our three ward councillors. Crest Nicholson presented their proposals, but Daniels would not attend. The concerns highlighted include
A report on the meeting was published in the Ealing Gazette on 23rd April.
The Planning Department posted out letters to residents
re the Daniel's redevelopment on 7th April. A notice of this application
appeared in the Ealing Gazette on 9th April.
Watch for news very soon on residents' committee actions on the revised
proposal.
Revised Planning Application for Daniel's site redevelopment was received by the council on 15th March - notices to residents should be circulated soon. Meanwhile, we have had meetings with the Planning Officers about the separate (but closely related) Daniel Warehouse application.
Another meeting was held on 4th February between our ad-hoc committee of residents and the developers and to see what further changes are now being proposed to make this proposal more acceptable.
Daniels have conceded that their planning application to build a warehouse (utilising part of the same space as the Crest Nicholsonstore/residential proposal!) incorrectly identifies the boundary of their property. Congratulations to John Potts who has headed off a "land-grab" of part of his garden and made this proposal less viable.
A second meeting was held on 8th January between the developers and the ad-hoc committee of residents to discuss the changes which Crest Nicholson considering.
A second meeting was held on 8th January between the developers and the ad-hoc committee of residents to discuss the changes which Crest Nicholson considering.
A (hopefully fruitful) meeting was held with the developers (Crest Nicholson) on 17th December to review their proposals and make suggestions on what we would like to see changed. This meeting was also attended by Peter Kyte, our appointed town planner. The meeting was very positive in that Crest listened to the various areas of our concern, including the height, footprint, car-parking, local amenities and sheer mass of the proposed development. They have now agreed to go away and look at whether they can make some amendments, to address some of our concerns (although within their own constraints for the development, whatever they may be!), and have promised to come back to us early in the new year with some fresh sketches etc. They were keen to point out that their agreement with Daniel is a contractual one, with little scope for manoeuvre on their part, however were still willing to listen to our views quite positively. Daniel meanwhile rejected the offer of a meeting.
There will be a brief meeting on Thursday 11th Dec, 7pm, for those interested in the status of protests at 29 Denmark Road. Those attending (or wanting more info by email) please let John Potts know at jpotts @ millfield-partnership.co.uk
FRF submitted a very detailed document outlining local objections to the development proposal. Discussions with the Planning Department and local councillors continue.
Many residents have expressed a concern that the letters of
objection posted to the council regarding the Daniel development may have
been caught up in the postal strike.
FRF suggest that you also email your letter to
Sandra.winwood@ealing.gov.uk to ensure that it reaches the Planning
Department asap.
FRF have submitted a formal protest - have you? If not, you can still take, post or email your objections, even after the official closing date.
The planning application for the Daniel's site was
published in the "Ealing Gazette" on October 10th, at which time
the three-week clock started ticking for our responses to the planning
department and our councillors.
Please, everyone, make sure you contact councillors and planning officers
- particularly those of you whose property backs onto Daniel's car park -
individual voices are so very important in showing our displeasure with
this application.
We will post everything we can find on the noticeboard, so please check
it periodically for updates. Please tell all your neighbours, and ensure
that everyone attends the meeting at Daniel's on 15th October - you should
have received letters from Green Issues about this.
Green Issues, the Public Relations firm working for the Daniel's developers, will be hosting an exhibition of their plans in the Daniel's cafe on 15th October. Please attend to find out what they propose - you should have received letters from Green Issues about this.
Daniel's have withdrawn their application for the warehouse they wanted to build on part of the car park - this could be part of attempts to avoid a piecemeal refusal of parts of their plans. It doesn't mean that they have given up their complete plans.
An article in "Ealing Gazette" on 26th September describes residents' unhappiness over the proposals.
50 concerned residents attended a meeting on Tuesday 23rd September. As yet, plans of the development are not available from the Planning Department. Watch out for more details soon.
RESIDENTS OF BROUGHTON AND DENMARK ROADS
You may be aware that Daniel departmental store is submitting a planning application to build an 8-storey building to replace their current store and car park, with a block of 140 flats on top. The immediate affect of this enormous development on you, among many other things, will be to:
All residents of the Five Roads will be receiving letters from the developer about a public meeting to tell us formally about their plans on 15th October at Daniel's, but as the planning application has already been submitted time is of the essence if we hope to have any say in the size of the development they build on our doorsteps. Please come along to a meeting of residents to discuss what we know so far, and what we can all do going forward to protect our interests.
